House Captains & Eco Council

House Captains.

Every year, Year Two pupils elect House Captains to represent the whole school. We meet every half term.

We discuss lots of different things about school in class and then our House Captains meet to feedback their ideas and discuss things further.

Our House Captains work hard to do their best.  We share all our ideas with the whole school.

House Captains wear House Captain badges, at play time and lunch time they have the option to wear high visibility vests to show the rest of the pupils who they are.  The pupil body know they can rely on House Captains for support on the playground.

Eco Council

The Eco Warriors have been self nominated; these children meet regularly to support our Eco-Schools action plan and they represent us in the ODBST annual Eco-Conference held in July.

This year, we are focusing our efforts on achieving Eco-Schools Green Flag accreditation.

We also hope to strengthen our partnership with Thomas Harding Juniors through shared eco-pledges to promote consistency and collaboration in sustainability education, including:

  • Promoting a culture of reduce, reuse, recycle throughout the school.
  • Minimising paper and paper towel usage to reduce environmental waste.
  • Ensuring correct sorting of waste, including food waste and recycling.
  • Monitoring and reducing water consumption across the site.
  • Conducting regular litter picking activities in and around school grounds.
  • Leading pupil-driven initiatives to reduce energy consumption and raise awareness.
  • Educating pupils on water pollution impacts and proactive solutions.
  • Constructing and maintaining habitats such as bug hotels and hedgehog houses to support local wildlife.
  • Developing biodiversity-focused learning zones with class-specific environmental responsibilities:
    • EYFS: Bird Champions (trees and bushes)
    • Year 1: Butterfly Champions (wildflower and grass meadows)
    • Year 2: Bee Champions (wildflower and grass meadows, flower planters)
  • Expanding wildflower gardens and pollinator-friendly planting across the school grounds.
