Reception – Birch Class
Miss Adams is very pleased to welcome your child into Reception and looks forward to supporting them as they begin their school journey.
Autumn 1: Magical Me
Our Learning Journey this half-term is Magical Me.
In our first few weeks of school, we focus on helping the children settle happily into their new routines. They will spend time getting to know their teachers and classmates, exploring the classroom, and discovering our indoor and outdoor learning areas through lots of play‑based activities.
This half-term, our learning is all about Magical Me. The children will be thinking about themselves and others—talking about their families, what they enjoy, and what makes them special and unique.
We will be sharing a range of books, including All Are Welcome by Alexandra Penfold, It’s Ok To Be Different by Todd Parr, My Family by Lisa Bullard, along with many other stories linked to families, homes, friendships, likes and dislikes. These texts will inspire activities that encourage discussion, creativity, confidence and a strong sense of belonging.
We will begin introducing early literacy through our phonics scheme, Little Wandle. Children will take part in small‑group writing activities, learning new sounds and practising blending and segmenting in fun, practical ways.
Our maths sessions will be hands‑on and interactive, helping children build early number skills and mathematical language. Alongside this, we will support communication and social skills through games, role‑play and collaborative activities that help children express themselves and build relationships.
We’re excited for a wonderful start to the year and can’t wait to see the children grow in confidence as they settle into Reception.
