Spring Term - "On the Farm"
The children have settled back from the holidays and are excited to learn about our new topic, ‘on the farm.’ We have been sharing our own experiences about the farm and have been learning lots of new things too.
The children are using their phonics to label farm animals and are enjoying reading lots of interesting farm books. Through Talk 4 Writing, the children will be learning the story ‘A Squash and a Squeeze’ and will then be exploring it in different ways; such as acting it out, retelling it in their own words and writing their own story.
The children will be making collages, painting and drawing pictures of farm animals. They will carry on learning to recognise and practise writing their names with good formation and control.
The children are becoming more independent at school and are getting changed for PE. They are also more engaged in their chosen activities and are showing pride in their achievements.
In Maths, the children have been learning to count and order numbers to 20. They are also finding 1 more and 1 less than a given number of objects. The children have also been distinguishing between 2D and 3D shapes.
In Music, we will carry on learning new songs and experimenting with pitch and rhythm using different instruments. We are regularly visiting the library and taking a book home to read. In Computing we are beginning to explore different programmes including maths games and drawing pictures in Colour Magic.
We have started guided reading and the children are reading in a group on a weekly basis. They take it in turns to read a sentence or look at the pictures on each page and we talk about what is happening in the book.
